Facility Type: Broadcasting
Location: Sacramento, California
Project: Controls Retrofit
Project Description: KCRA Channel 3 is one of Sacramento's leading news channels. The Channel 3 facility is roughly 20 years old and needed some mechanical upgrades. IES worked closely with KCRA's facility management team to develop a plan of attack in replacing mechanical equipment while the facility is still 100% occupied and operational.
We performed the work in 3 phases to update the most critical equipment and prevent unnecessary down time. We started by replacing the chillers and updating the chilled water plant. We installed the back bone for the controls system and performed an integration with the new chillers.
The second phase was a full retrofit and rebuilding of the existing Air Handlers. All the existing pneumatic control was removed and new digital control installed providing precise and accurate control on all functions.
The third phase was a full retrofit of all the VAV's and installation of Variable Frequency Drives in the Air Handlers. This completed the full system retrofit without undue interruption of occupants. The final result is a much more efficient building with tremendous energy savings and greater comfort to the occupants.
The controls system is fully accessable through internet browser and provides the facilities department the ability to easily manage any issues or concerns from their desks or anywhere in the world.
